Kapahaka

Nau mai Haere mai ki tenei wharangi ...

This page has been designed to share how Te Reo Mâori me ôna tikanga has been intertwined into our school culture.

Teachers implement Te Reo Mâori into their classroom programmes through Morning mihimihi and Karakia as well as with basic commands and waiata. Each learning room also has at least 20 minutes per week teaching Te Reo Mâori using the Te Kete Ipurangi resource ‘He reo tupu, He reo ora’.

We are also very lucky to have Anaru Hawkins and Chaz Naera. They work closely with our school and teach Kapa Haka on three levels.

‘School Kapa’

The WHOLE school participates in Kapa Haka weekly.

‘Tuakana/Teina Group’

Students aged 6 – 13 (Years 3 to 4) choose to be in the Kapa Haka group. This group practices weekly. At times, they also have noho marae (live-ins) at a local Pâ in Rahui Pokeka (Huntly), named Te Kauri Marae.

We have a Kimihia Kapa Haka facebook page.
